September 2019

The start of the year has been exciting at Alcona Elementary!  There is a great energy among staff and students back in the building, with everyone looking forward to new projects and activities in the classrooms.

ELA Curriculum

Last year we piloted 3 ELA programs in search of something that met the needs of our students and we chose Bookworms to implement.  This curriculum is very engaging for students, as the structure and sequence is student-centered.  After only a few weeks of implementation, both students and staff are excited about this program and we are seeing benefits from it.  This all-inclusive curriculum provides all necessary components of ELA (English Language Arts) to ensure continuity through each grade level.  We are anticipating positive results from this change, as it is a great fit for our school

Alcona Elementary PTO

The Alcona Elementary PTO is always looking for new faces!  This group has great passion, energy, and innovative approaches in bringing the school and families together.  Be looking out for information on upcoming events and opportunities to help.

New Staff

We have some new faces at Alcona Elementary this year.  Amy Crevier (4th grade), Rachael Wilkerson (3rd grade), Danielle Jirasek (1st grade), Jessica Smith (Special Education), and Jenny Schroeder (1st - 3rd grade Science) have been welcome additions to the Alcona Elementary team.  Each brings a dynamic approach to teaching and have connected great with students. The knowledge, experience, and expertise make each a great fit at Alcona Elementary.

ROAR Expectations

At the beginning of each year, we spend time reviewing and teaching our ROAR expectations in all areas of school.  Being Respectful, On-Task, Always Safe, and Responsible is necessary to ensure a successful school year for all students, in all areas they are at.  Please ask your kids about these expectations and what it looks like throughout the building.

It has been a great first few weeks at school and we are looking forward to many more!  Please reach out with any questions or concerns at 989-736-8146 or email
