We’ve been moving right along this year! It’s hard to believe we are already in December! As the weather gets colder, please remember to have your children bring snow pants, boots, hats, gloves, and winter coats. As the snow starts to fall, boots and snow pants are needed if students want to play in the snow. If students do not have appropriate attire, they will have to stay on the plowed parking lot area during recess.
Outdoor Learning Experiences
Many classes are taking advantage of the new property located adjacent to the school property. Classes have taken nature walks to see the different types of trees and habitats, they have searched for dropped logs and learned about the amazing animals that live in that space, and also have watched at the progression of fall turning into winter. The paths along this property will still be used over the winter months, as there is much to learn even when the temperature drops and the snow flies.
Thank you for your continued efforts to ensure students read each night and that SPRITE folders are being completed. Research shows that reading is the best way to improve literacy! Even with long weekends and days off of school, it is important that we are reading each night. Find different books or other family for students to read with, this is a great way to connect with family that may be visiting.
Each week we focus on different ROAR expectations around the school and what it means to be Respectful, On-Task, Always Safe, and Responsible throughout the building and on the bus. Taking time to ask students what is expected in each area and what it looks like would be appreciated and also ensures consistent communication between home and school.
The Alcona Elementary PTO has some events scheduled for the rest of this calendar year and is discussing plans for after the new year. If you are interested in attending, we would love to see new faces and get new ideas brought to the table. Santa Secret Shop is scheduled for the week of December 9th - 12th in the Sugar Shack. Classes will schedule time to visit throughout the week.
The Christmas Program is scheduled for Thursday, December 19th at 6:00p in the auditorium. Classes will be practicing their songs and are looking forward to another fun event!
