I wanted to pass along a number of important updates. As always, let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Updated Master Calendar
The district has moved the start date to begin the school year back a week to allow additional preparations before students return. Students will return on September 8th. A link to the new calendar is here.
K-12 Student Material Pick-Up Date
Students that are working 100% online will have a material pick-up date of September 2nd from noon to 6 pm. More details to come from each building.
Masks for Students
Just a reminder that all students will need to have masks with them before arriving at school or entering a school bus. We will have disposable masks for students that forget, but it's strongly encouraged to have several masks to rotate during each week of school for your students.
If you have not contacted the school about your educational preferences this fall, please do so if you'd like something other than face to face.
Through an innovative partnership with Alcona Health Center, the district will be conducting temperature checks with school and AHC staff daily for students. The screening will be done before entering the main portion of each building.
The district was able to hire four new staff members last week! They were Lisa Dellar(GSRP lead), Desiree Renz(GSRP Assistant), Dustin Yokom( Secondary ELA), and Jamie Karshina(Secondary Special Education, Math, & ELA).
Athletic Director Update
Due to the needs of our return to school plan, Mrs. Neuenfeldt will be teaching an elementary grade level and not able to continue as athletic director for 20/21. I'm stepping into this role on a temporary basis to navigate this school year before revisiting the position next summer.
Busing and 1.5 Mile Radius
Due to concerns about capacity on school buses, anyone within a 1.5-mile radius of the school will be asked to self-transport. If our bus numbers are lower and we can guarantee distancing, we will revisit this decision early in the school year.
Visitors and Parents
We ask that parents call ahead to schedule appointments to enter the building. The added element of scheduling an appointment is a recommended step to keep our students and staff safe and ensure we keep visitors to the building organized and separate from the student body. Parents will also have to drop their students off at the entrance each day and won't be allowed to enter the building with their children.
I realize there are many changes heading into the new school year. Please reach out to your buildings if you have specific questions or concerns.
