The district discovered a written threat late this morning. We immediately went into soft lockdown and investigated the validity of the written message. Due to the threat containing specific details, we elected to remove the students and staff from the building. To complicate the situation, we had close to eighty students out of the district at Career Tech classes or on a field trip. To keep the students safe, we elected to take them to the Alcona County Commission on Aging for the remainder of the day, ensuring their safety while allowing the students off-site to continue their experiences and sending all students home at the end of the school day.
While moving students off-site, we were able to secure the building and deemed the threat not credible. The district was also able to identify the student that was responsible for the situation. School will resume tomorrow as scheduled. Just a reminder, it's a 1/2 day students and full day for staff.
A huge thank you goes out to local law enforcement and our school resource officer Jason Dellar for his work with district staff today. I also want to thank the Alcona County Commission on Aging and their staff for welcoming our students this afternoon and allowing us to conduct and finalize our investigation at the school.
