Alcona Elementary Update

February/March 2021

2nd Semester Updates

We are a few weeks into our 2nd semester and working hard to ensure our kids are continuing to move forward!  Last Friday (February 19) we took a day for our staff to look at how our students are progressing and develop some building-wide and classroom changes to meet the ever-evolving needs that we are seeing.

In January, we had an Imagine Learning challenge for both Imagine Language & Literacy and Imagine Math.  The top 50 students that were engaged in these programs were entered into a drawing for an Amazon Fire tablet.  Congratulations to Bentley and Nikolai for winning these!  There was great engagement during this month, keep up that great work!

Outdoor Gear

As the weather gets warmer, the melting snow makes some very slushy play places on the playground!  Please be sure to have students bring hats, gloves, coats, and snowpants each day so they stay warm and dry.   It is important to check these items each night as well, in case they need to be dried for the next day.

The Positivity Project

We are currently learning about how Other People Matter by Celebrating Other’s Successes.  The character trait of Enthusiasm will be discussed February 28 - March 6; Social Intelligence from March 7 - March 13; Love of Learning March 14 - March 20 and Humor March 21 - March 27. Visit https://posproject.org/ for more information.  A great support this program provides is resources for families.  If you go to: https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/, you can select your child’s grade level for resources that can be used at home.  The password is: P2.

Alcona PTO

Our Alcona PTO group is running their Little Caesars Pizza Kit fundraiser for the next few weeks.  This was a huge success last year and we are excited to be able to have it again this year.  Pizza Kits will be delivered during March 22, specific details will be provided as the time gets closer.

Tiger Clinic

There are 2 amazing Behavioral Therapists working in the elementary building each day, through the Alcona Health Center.  If you are looking for supports for you child, know that they are available here at Alcona Elementary.  Call the office at 989-736-8146 or the Tiger Extension at 989-736-9837 for more information.
