Mr. O'Connor

Good afternoon!

I wanted to share several updates. As always, don't hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns.

Last Day of 21/22 School Year
The district received a waiver from the state and made the following calendar adjustments to the final days of the school year.

  • June 8th is a full day of school(was scheduled as 1/2 day)
  • June 9th is a full day of school and the final student day(was not originally a scheduled day of school but needed due to snow days)
  • June 10th is staff only 1/2 day of records

ESSER III Community/Parent Feedback Session
On Monday, May 23rd, from 6:15-6:45, I'm hosting an informational session in the middle school lobby on changing ESSER III guidance from the state and how the district is proposing adjusting our plan from infrastructure projects to hiring new staff to support students and other staffing costs. We don't plan to abandon the infrastructure costs but to table them until the bidding climate and supply chain has improved to maximize the funds we've received.

The district is looking for at least two elementary teachers. Please pass along my contact information if you know of candidates graduating or looking to move North.

Staying Put
As I'm sure many of you heard, I was not selected as the next Superintendent of the Alpena Montmorency Alcona Educational Service District. The decision to apply was a difficult one to begin with, as I've spent my entire 16-year career as a Tiger. While I was excited about the opportunity to impact students regionally, I'm happy to be staying home and continue supporting students at Alcona. I'm grateful for the support from staff, students, parents, and the community during the process. The district has many exciting innovations planned, and I look forward to supporting the work.

Enjoy the last few weeks of school, and have a great summer!
