School will be back in session tomorrow, barring some unforeseen circumstances. Two early cancellation days early into winter is not how we wanted to start the season! Below are several updates. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Fiber Press Release
Alcona County's Economic Development Council recently published a press release on a fiber internet partnership. Read about the exciting news here.
As vaping continues to be challenging to monitor and prevent, the district has begun installing vape sensors throughout the middle/high building. If you have questions about them, please contact Ms. Thomas at email@example.com.
The district recently welcomed Shawna Cantrell and Danielle Werth as paraprofessionals at Alcona Elementary. We are fortunate to have them join the team!
The district awarded Legacy Barricades the winning bid to install classroom barricades in the case of an emergency. The devices should be installed before winter break. You can learn more about Legacy Barricades here.
MS/HS Secretary Posting
If you know of someone with the skills to serve as our middle/high secretary, please send them to the posting here. Please share!
Electric Bus Grant
Here is a link to an article on the district's electric bus grant award. The district is not planning for an all-electric fleet but essentially utilizing the grant as an opportunity to pilot the new technology, as we would have had to replace two retiring diesel buses during the summer of 2023. New diesel buses cost $125,000 each. The infrastructure for the electric hookups will cost the district $20,000 as the cost of the buses, and the grant would cover other infrastructure.
