Middle and High School Parents and Guardians:
We have just wrapped up the1st marking period of the school year and there continue to be many wonderful things happening at Alcona Middle/High School! This month, Houses are focusing on gratitude--ways to show it and the benefits to ourselves and others. Keep an eye out for some of our projects as we work to show gratitude as we head into the holiday season. Here are a few important updates:
Cell Phone Policy
We are starting to see some issues with the cell phone policy. Please speak to your student about the policy and encourage them to take a break from their devices in order to be better, more present students. Students who have their phone taken away more than once, must have a parent/guardian come into the school to pick it up. 22/23 Cell Phone/Device Policy.
Vaping and Vape Detectors
Vaping has become a serious issue among middle and high school students. For the safety and well-being of Alcona Middle/High School students, vape detectors have been placed in designated areas of the middle and high school. Alerts from the detectors are transmitted to administration and searches will be conducted based upon the information collected. Discipline will apply to the Athletic Code of Conduct as well the Student/Parent Handbook.
Progress reports
1st marking period progress reports will be sent out this week--just in time for parent/teacher conferences! Marking period progress reports are a snapshot of where your child is at the end of a marking period. The grades listed can and will change over the remainder of the semester. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teachers.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 22 from 5-8pm and on Wednesday, November 23 from 8-11am. Conferences will be held in the old gym and no appointments are necessary. Short informational presentations will be held at 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 in the auditorium. We hope to see you there!

Picture Retakes
Picture retakes will be held on December 7 from 8:15-9:30 in the high school lobby. All students should get their photo taken for the yearbook!
Tutoring
After school tutoring is available to all MS/HS students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 5:15. Students will meet in Mr. Erickson’s room on Tuesdays and Ms. Nelson’s room on Thursdays.
ParentVue
ParentVUE allows parents and guardians access to their child’s assignments, grades, attendance, teacher emails, and more.
