Two educators at Alcona High School are being recognized for their outstanding contributions to students and the broader community.
The Alcona High School Woodworking Program, led by Woodworking Teacher Tim Campbell, has been recognized as the Michigan Industrial Technology Education Society (MITES) Program of Quality for 2026. This honor recognizes excellence in Alcona’s industrial technology education program and reflects its positive impact on past, current, and future students.
Mr. Campbell’s woodworking program emphasizes hands-on learning, skill development, and preparation for careers in the skilled trades. His dedication helps students build practical experience while developing a strong appreciation for craftsmanship.
In addition, Alcona High School English teacher Sarah Hechlik has been named the Michigan American Legion Teacher of the Year for Region Four. This honor recognizes not only her excellence in the classroom but also her meaningful contributions to the community and our local Veterans.
Ms. Hechlik was selected in part for her leadership in organizing the Coffee with Veterans program, which brings students and local veterans together to share stories, build connections, and foster mutual respect. Her commitment to volunteerism and civic engagement has made a lasting impact on both students and the community.
Together, these recognitions reflect the strength of Alcona High School’s education team and their ongoing dedication to student success and community involvement.
