Alcona Community Schools is proud to announce that Ms. Hechlik has been named the Michigan American Legion Teacher of the Year for Region Four, a prestigious honor recognizing outstanding educators who demonstrate excellence in the classroom while making meaningful contributions to their communities and supporting our nation's veterans.

Ms. Hechlik accepted the award from Alcona County Veterans Service Officer Tony Atkinson during the Alcona County Veterans Memorial Day Event. As part of the ceremony, she delivered remarks reflecting on the importance of service, patriotism, and the lasting impact veterans have on future generations.

The recognition highlights Ms. Hechlik's dedication to fostering civic engagement and strengthening connections between students and community members. She was selected in part for her leadership in organizing the Coffee with Veterans program, which provides opportunities for students and local veterans to share stories, build relationships, and develop a deeper understanding of military service and sacrifice.

Through her commitment to volunteerism, community involvement, and veteran outreach, Ms. Hechlik has created meaningful learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
