Recently our high school environmental science class had an incredible day exploring the unique ecosystems of North Point Nature Preserve. The students in Mrs. Luce-Wilson's class were completely dialed in as they studied the complex balance of our local environment, identifying how native, non-native, and invasive species aggressively compete for the same real estate. They also got a first-hand look at the environmental roadblocks and resource limits that dictate exactly how many organisms a habitat can sustainably support before the system maxes out. The group did an exceptional job staying engaged and asking sharp questions throughout the fieldwork. We couldn't have asked for a better wrap-up to the trip than unwinding together with s'mores over a campfire. A huge shoutout goes to our amazing community partners at the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative and NOAA for making this hands-on learning experience possible for our students. #alconaschools #placebasededucaiton #thankyou
