Alcona Community Schools is proud to recognize Ms. Hechlik for being named the Michigan American Legion Teacher of the Year for Region Four, an honor that celebrates her excellence in education and her dedication to serving the community and local veterans. She accepted the award from Alcona County Veterans Service Officer Tony Atkinson during the Alcona County Veterans Memorial Day Event, where she also delivered remarks on the importance of service and honoring veterans. Ms. Hechlik was selected in part for her leadership of the Coffee with Veterans program, which brings students and veterans together to share experiences, build relationships, and foster mutual respect. Her commitment to civic engagement, volunteerism, and connecting students with the community has made a lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom.
