This summer Close Up students will be taking a trip to Washington, D.C. for a hands-on learning experience to explore government by visiting monuments, museums, and Capitol Hill, taking part in discussions and debates, and more. To help fund their trip they are doing a can and bottle drive. If you have cans/bottles to donate please drop them off in the fenced area outside CLAW Academy; which is located at the entrance to our Transportation Department. Thank you! #alconaschools #closeup

Our 9th grade American Voices students had an unforgettable experience yesterday on their field trip to the Henry Ford Museum! From exploring powerful moments in American history to making real-world connections to what we’ve been learning in class, it was a day full of discovery and inspiration. The experience didn’t stop there—students also enjoyed a cultural dining experience at Benihana in Dearborn, where they stepped outside their comfort zones and experienced something new together. A huge thank you to Inspiration Alcona and the Lincoln Lions for making this opportunity possible through their generous grant support. We are so grateful for community partners who invest in our students’ learning beyond the classroom!

We want to bring driver’s training back to Alcona County, but we need your help to make it happen! There is a drivers training instructor class in Grayling starting on April 6. We're hoping someone from our community can attend and bring driver's training back to Alcona. Please see flyer for more information and sign-up ASAP. 5th grade students wrapped up their Chemistry of Taste Unit with 4 ingredient whole food recipes they created. They then hosted a tasting in order to try each others recipes. Thanks to our food service staff for supporting our students learning!

For every new AAACU membership opened, $25 will be donated, and for every existing member who adds a Visa, an additional $10 will be donated. We are going to reopen the free food and water pantry today. We have a lot of water and some limited food still left. It will be open from 10 am to noon behind the bus garage.

On Friday, March 20, 2026, and Monday, March 23, 2026, the MDHHS office in Alcona, located at 402 E Main Street, Harrisville, MI 48740, will be open to process requests for anyone who received food assistance and experienced a loss in food due to the ice storm. Staff will be on site both days from 9 am-4 pm (closing from 12-1 pm for lunch). These days are being added to the office's normal business days of Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

You can also request the form be mailed by calling 1-844-464-3447.

Please note that Food Replacement must be requested within 10 days of the loss.

We will be giving away water and some very basic food items that were delivered yesterday, free to the community through a partnership with Alcona County and Consumers Power. Feel free to drive behind the bus garage, and we will have staff there to assist from 10 am to 2 pm today.

Due to the continued power outage and road conditions, school will be closed on March 19th and 20th. We plan to resume on Monday. The school warming shelter at Alcona Elementary will be open through the weekend.
