🎓ACS Early College Spotlight: Today we will be highlighting some of our current EC students! Every Friday our junior and senior EC students have a seminar course with our EC Coordinator. The purpose of the seminar is to help ensure EC students have the tools, resources, and knowledge needed to be successful throughout their college experience. Last week students did a time management activity to think about how they spend their average day and if they are making time for their priorities, such as studying and academics. Another activity students participate in every year is College Terminology Jeopardy! One key factor in college success is understanding the terminology; therefore, it’s important to introduce students to college terms while in high school. Join us this Wednesday, February 28th to learn more about Early College! Current ACS 10th graders can apply to EC by April 8th at: bit.ly/ACS-EC-App #alconaschools #earlycollege #applytoday

Last week the ACS Knowledge Bowl Team hosted a House vs. House competition at the Block Party! Senior Dustin Handy also rocked out at the House Block Party to some Metallica! Thank you to all the staff and students that participated in our 1st ever House Knowledge Bowl Match. Freshman Bailey Dellar won the competition for Saber House! Not familiar with the Alcona Middle/High School Houses? The middle/high school is divided into 15 houses and each 6-12th grader is allocated to one house when they enter middle school. Throughout the school year houses participate in activities and competitions that promote team building, school spirit, camaraderie, academics, across grade collaboration, and more. Each month there is a block party for the Houses. #AlconaSchools #House #BlockParty #TigerPride

🎓ACS Early College Spotlight: Today’s highlight for our EC promotion is our 2023 and 2024 5th year students! One of the common misconceptions about EC is that students don’t get to have the full senior experience. This is not true! EC students walk alongside their class at graduation, get recognized for all their high school accomplishments, and participate in all things senior related during 12th grade. The only difference an EC student experiences is they complete their FAFSA, apply for scholarships, are recognized for their college academics, and receive their diploma during their 5th year. EC students are further recognized during their 5th year at graduation, where they are awarded their Michigan Early/Middle College Association (MEMCA) Certificate for completing our EC Program, obtaining 15 or more college credits, completing the required number of community service/career exploration hours, and more! Additionally, EC students wear a gold cap and gown at their EC graduation ceremony. Join us February 28th to learn more about Early College! Current ACS 10th graders can apply to EC by April 8th at: bit.ly/ACS-EC-App #alconaschools #earlycollege #applytoday

Animal adaptation! Recently students in Ms. Luce's environmental science class learned all about different types of animal behavioral and physical adaptations, one of which was camouflage. Students practiced their cryptic coloration skills by disguising their paper butterflies to blend in with their surroundings. Students had some well deserved fun after a week of studying adaptations!

So proud of Keegan Ritchie, he is our first Alcona wrestler to win a match at the regional tournament. He lost in the blood round today meaning that if he would have won he would have went to the state tournament, we are looking forward to next and having a great year. Proud of you Keegan
