The Alcona Electric Tigers saw their E-sports season and playoff run come to an end in the first round this week, as they faced Team DJA of Plainwell High School near Kalamazoo. The Electric Tigers (MHSEL ranked 51) were swept by Team DJA (#14) in three straight sets, 2-1, 2-0, and 2-0. According to coach Thomas, “We faced a really skilled team in the first round of playoffs and we, in turn, played really well... there’s no reason to hang our heads for losing to a team like this. We did some great things in our first season, including our playoff appearance, and we’re proud of how the guys performed, and what they’ve learned.” Playing in the final match was Marcus Prater, Warren Leeseberg, and William Brozowski. In reserves were Rob Eby and Eric Cann. Missing from photo are team members Wyatt Alderman and Jayson Lincoln.
In addition to the support from Alcona Schools, the Electric Tigers would like to thank Inspiration Alcona for helping purchase equipment for their afterschool program, as well as technical support from the AMAESD’s Instructional Technology Data Specialist, Ashlie O’Connor as well as support from Tawas E-sports coach, Keith del Rio.
Though the Fall season is over, the Electric Tigers are looking to expand to more game titles for the Spring season, which will start scrimmages in January. In addition to continuing Super Smash Brothers, the team has shown interest in and hopes to grow to include game titles like Rocket League, Splatoon, and Mario Kart. To get involved, please contact Coach Reynolds, or Coach Thomas.

Ending their regular season with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses, the Tigers ended up in 51st place in the tournament bracket, which allows the state’s 64 top teams to compete in the post season.
