Next week starts MS Boys basketball!

NHS is hosting another Coffee for Veterans Event THIS SUNDAY November, 6th from 2-4pm in the high school auditorium. Share with friends, family and neighbors.
This month's theme: hunting! Wear camo and blaze orange, and bring a picture of your best hunt.

5th grade students are not only learning about how an ecosystem functions but also forest management and decision making. This week with the help of community partner Huron Pines, they chose a removal method and removed over an acre of invasive Autumn Olive from our school forest. The next step in this place based stewardship project is choosing native plants to replace them. Way to go student stewards!

8th grade mentors assisted the 4th grade students in their science investigation "What is causing the bobcats eyes to shine?" Through dissection students discovered a unique structure in a cows eyes that will help them to answer this question. Make sure to ask your 4th and 8th graders about their experience!

Special Congratulations to Carmen Dellar! She has committed to playing basketball AND volleyball at ACC!

Alcona’s environmental science students visited the North Point Sanctuary, north of Alpena, to learn about local terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Scholars collected water samples in an effort to monitor water acidification. Students were also educated about native plants present in the sanctuary and shook hands with a few trees. Lastly, they removed spotted knapweed and talked about invasive species prevention and reduction techniques.
