We are thrilled to announce that Baylee Goddard has been selected as Alcona High School’s 2025 Student of the Year and has also been named the overall Regional Student of the Year through The Alpena News! Each spring, Alcona Community Schools partners with The Alpena News to recognize outstanding seniors across the region. Our school is allowed to nominate one senior to represent Alcona in the regional competition. The selection is made through a vote by our K-12 staff, who choose the senior they feel best exemplifies what it means to be an Alcona Tiger.
At the heart of this award are the 8 Traits of a Graduate, which define the skills, mindset, and character we strive to instill in all of our students. Baylee was chosen not only for embodying these traits but also for consistently upholding our school motto: "Excellence Today, Success Tomorrow." Her hard work, leadership, and commitment to our school community has made her an outstanding choice for this honor and a deserving representative of Alcona at the regional level. This Memorial Day, Alcona Community Schools remembers and honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Once again these great young men honored our fallen heroes, by placing flags at their graves at three local cemeteries. Thank you to Tony Atkinson (Alcona County Veterans Affairs) and Harrisville Township for making this opportunity possible!!

Summer school for high school credit recovery courses has begun. Registration forms are available in the main office. Students will be enrolled when they return the registration form and provide a $25 deposit. Dates & Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-12p. June 17th - Aug 7th.

The Alcona ROV and Robotics team went to the Uncrewed Triple Challenge (Inaugural drone competition featuring sea, air, and land segments) this morning. The students were able to set up a booth and share their hard work with Maj. General Rogers, Governor Whitmer, Department of Transportation Director Bradley Wieferich, and Alpena's Mayor Cindy Johnson. Great job, Alcona ROV and Robotics Team! #alconaschools #rov #robotics
Our 3rd grade students' released Gillbert, the Lake Sturgeon, back into the Black River ecosystem last week. Students spent 8 months preparing for this day! Thanks to Michigan Sea Grant, Michigan DNR, Michigan State University Fisheries and Wildlife Department, Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians and Sturgeon for Tomorrow for making this amazing place based learning experience happen.
