Did you know the month of October was farm to school month? Here at Alcona Community Schools we provide fresh ingredients for the students to try right from our school gardens! This year the elementary school has grown 563 pounds of fresh produce for the students; from tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans to summer and winter squash. All of the produce is grown, harvested, and consumed by our elementary students. The produce is used during lunch for tastings and cooked into their meals. #alconaschools #foodcorps

Alcona's National Honor Society hosted another successful Coffee for Veterans event Sunday with a tailgate party theme for the Lions game. Veterans had a field goal contest and cornhole competition for prizes. Bonnie Baker created a Quilts of Valor panel, which was given to the oldest veteran in attendance, Tom Heatly, 85-years-old. Our next event will be Sunday, December 1st, from 2 to 4 pm. Please share with any veteran family members and friends.

Cole Upper ran today at the state finals at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI. He set high goals for himself and ended up placing 65th out of 252 runners, finishing with a time of 17:28. Great job Cole!
