One local veteran was given a Quilt of Valor, several earned recognitions from Tony Atkinson, and Angela Linsenman, a member of the Michigan Veterans Coalition, did a presentation on Veteran Suicide Prevention. Our next Coffee for Veterans Event will be held on Sunday, November 5th from 2 to 4 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Please share with family, friends, and neighbors

Alcona County's Conservation Officer, Jesse Grzechowski, was at Alcona High School today and taught basic wilderness survival skills to Mrs. Hechlik's English in the Real World and English I classes. English in the Real World students are planning an ultimate fall road trip and learned how to prepare. Additionally, English I students are focusing on the guiding question: What does it take to survive? All students learned about a "survival mindset", the "C"s of Survival Gear, and effective campsite considerations.

Regarding Varsity Football in Au Gres on Friday, October 6:
Friday at 7:00 pm is a big varsity football game with the Alcona Tigers being hosted by the Au Gres Sims Wolverines! It is also a special night to recognize our current and past military.
The Arenac County Veterans Affairs would like to honor our military by paying for their admittance and a guest into the football game. The only thing that is asked is that military personnel provide ID of their military service.
In addition, a voucher will also be provided to military personnel for a trip to the concessions!
Thank you to our current and past military heroes who continue to give today. We owe you unending gratitude for your service!

The Alcona High School Marching Band performed in the annual Black Bear Festival Parade this afternoon in Curran. They were awarded 2nd place! It was a beautiful day for a parade! Thank you to our 8th grade students, Cia Cox and Adelle Boyat, for carrying the banner. 🍁🐻🥁🎵

“Hear ye, hear ye! We, the people of Alcona Middle/High School Houses, in order to form a more connected, supportive, and spirited school, do ordain and establish this constitution.” Today Ms. Thomas presided over this momentous event and presented the proposed articles of the House Constitution. Not familiar with the Alcona Middle/High School Houses? The middle/high school is divided into 15 houses and each 6-12th grader is allocated to one house when they enter middle school. Throughout the school year houses participate in activities and competitions that promote team building, school spirit, camaraderie, academics, across grade collaboration, and more. Each month there is a block party for the Houses. At today’s block party a new constitution was introduced. This project was inspired by Constitution Day on September 17th. Each house made a poster and submitted one article to contribute to the House Constitution. Some of the proposed articles include: All Houses have the right to declare war on other Houses (submitted by House 7) and All Houses will promote school spirit by engaging students in activities, friendly competitions, and spirit days/weeks that encourage camaraderie and inclusivity (submitted by House 12). Thank you to Ms. Thomas for channeling our founding fathers for this jolly good occasion! #AlconaSchools #TigerPride

Shout out to the class of 1983 for painting the school rock! #AlconaSchools #TigerPride #Classof1983
