Thank you to players and parents who attended the ms basketball meeting tonight. If you were not able to attend and have questions please email somersr@alconaschools.net
Practices for the first two weeks will be held at the basketball courts in Harrisville (across from the harbor). Wed Aug 26 and Thur Aug 27th will be from 5:30-7 pm. Players should arrive a few minutes early in order to go through a brief screening. Players will need to arrive dressed for practice, bring their own water bottle, shoes for practing outside (not good indoor basketball shoes), a mask, a towel, and their completed physical form or mhsaa waiver (if they cannot turn it into the office ahead if time).
Reminder all girls 6-8th grade planning on playing basketball, there is a player/parent meeting tonight at 6pm on the football field. I am sure there are a lot of questions and we will hopefully be able to answer all of them tonight. This is not a practice, but we would like to get everything set for practice to start on Tues. Schedule, covid protocols, expectations, and eligibility rules will be discussed. See everyone tonight. Go Tigers!!
Our last meal “GRAB & GO” for the summer is today, Monday, August 24 in the MS parking lot from 4pm-6:30pm for all children age 18 and younger. We will be providing 6 days of breakfast and lunch. Meals are free!

MS girls basketball will start Mon Aug 24th with a player and parent meeting at 6pm on the football field. Bring a mask and any forms you did not get turned into the office before that. This would be all interested 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls enrolled at Alcona. We will go through the screening process and answer all questions. A practice schedule will be given then. Middle School Cross Country will begin Monday morning at 9 a.m. We will meet at the track. See you then!
Alcona Elementary families were texted or emailed information about upcoming meetings. A general parent meeting and Q and A is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 at 5:00p. This will provide information about the upcoming year for all students, as well as time for a Q and A.
There is a parent orientation meeting on Thursday, August 27 at 10:00a or 4:00p for students only taking online courses. This is mandatory for families to attend, as key information will be provided for the online format.
To help our K-12 students and families get a better idea of what to expect when they come back to school for F2F learning we created Elementary, Middle, and High School "back to school" videos. All 7th grade girls have been sent the ms basketball sign up form again to their school email. If you have already filled it out you are all set. If middle school girls basketball numbers remain low, then 6th grade girls may be asked to play for the 7th grade team. If you are a 6th grade Alcona student who would like to play if needed please fill out the attached Google form, go to the students email to get access to the form. MS girls basketball is scheduled to start practice on Mon August 24th at 3:30-5:30. All players will need a physical on file in the hs office (or mhsaa waiver if they qualify) prior to the first practice. No physical means no practice! With numbers being a little low for 7th and 8th grade girls there may be a need for 6th grade girls to try out for a few spots. They too can plan to be at practice on the 24th if interested and will be given more details then. Watch for updates as plans could change any day. Mhsaa is looking to do another update on Aug 20th so we may know more then.
Due to the unfortunate postponement of the football season, the MS parent meeting scheduled for Monday is cancelled. Stay tuned for further updates.
