This summer Close Up students will be taking a trip to Washington, D.C. for a hands-on learning experience to explore government by visiting monuments, museums, and Capitol Hill, taking part in discussions and debates, and more. To help fund their trip they are doing a can and bottle drive. Reminder: The Alpena Community College Softball Team is hosting a hitting skills clinic on Saturday, January 31 from 12pm-2pm at the Aplex. Alcona Early College Student Rilee Tracy will be helping lead this clinic! All Alcona 3rd-9th grade girls are invited to participate and learn from one of our very own college athletes. The cost is $20. This is not a school sponsored event.
Reminder: Our middle and high school before and after school programs are in full swing! We still have openings in our Before and After-School Supervision for grades 6-12 and After-School Tutoring for grades 6-12.
Families who need to drop off 6th-12th grade students early or pick them up later have this option Monday through Thursday. These programs provide a safe and supportive environment for students outside the regular school day. Students will remain in the high school lobby and should bring a book, homework, or other items to work on. They will not be able to access lockers during this time. Note parents/guardians can drop-off their student anytime from 6:40am-7:40am and pick-up their student anytime afterschool from 3:15pm-5:15pm.
After-School Tutoring is available for all 6th-12th grade students on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays every week. Students that need help with homework, want to improve their grade, or need to make up missing assignments should attend. Mr. Erickson leads tutoring on Mon & Wed (focusing on English/Social Studies support) and Ms. Luce-Wilson leads tutoring on Wed & Thurs (focusing on Math/Science support).
