Thank you to the Ladies Golf League at White Pine National Golf course for raising funds for staff supplies at Alcona Elementary School! They sponsored a ladies golf tournament this fall with the proceeds going to support Alcona Elementary staff. Shelly Kosal and Kathie Largent organized the event with 14 teams and 56 ladies participating in the tournament, hole sponsors, raffle table and private donations. Thank you for supporting our school and staff!!

Sports update! Friday September 12: Soccer will start in Fairview at 4:45; Football will start in Alcona at 6:15! This is to accommodate our soccer players who are also in the marching band! Last month our 4th-12th grade students had a great time at the Alcona Summer Program! They made tie dye t-shirt creations, played games, visited Iargo Springs and Lumberman’s Monument, made some “welcome back” presents for our amazing Alcona teachers, and built birdhouses. Students also explored Dinosaur Gardens where they took a walk, played some mini-golf, and enjoyed a prehistoric picnic. #alconaschools #summerprogram #throwback

Grant applications for the fall grant cycle of our Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC) Grant are due October 15. AmeriCorps Seniors, in partnership with NEMCSA, offers meaningful volunteer opportunities through three programs. The Foster Grandparent Program allows you to serve in schools and preschools, providing encouragement and support to help students succeed. The Senior Companion Program gives you the chance to visit other seniors, offering friendship, assistance, and care to those who need it most. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program provides flexible ways to serve your community with opportunities such as home meal delivery, food pantry assistance, transportation, and more. Alcona Health Center’s Tiger Health Extension is looking for students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members to join the Tiger Community Advisory Council (CAC). The CAC works together to build awareness, create a positive health center identity, and review policies and services. Members serve as a bridge between students and staff, provide input on Tiger branding, share ideas to make clinic spaces welcoming, and review key policies. The council meets at least twice a year, either in-person or virtually, and decisions are made by consensus.
